Carnaval 2011

Carnaval so time to dress up, yeah:-) Since Lucas I have another victim to dress and my mother and I spent one day behind the sowing machine to make the costumes. No fun to dress up alone so we went with the childcare´s bunch, on their esquimo theme car, 2 rounds through the village (or 30 minutes total:-).
If this sounds totally integrated to you let me inform you otherwise. We did officially sign up, get the textile and pattern through the association-of-mothers-and-fathers-of-the-childcare (´parents´ in Spanish is the masculine word and that would not be right of course so therefore this long construction). BUT they never spoke to me at any point, kept ignoring and looking through me as if I did not exist at all. There were three ´friends´, parents of a classmate of Lucas, a colleague of work and the neighbour, so I was not completely forlorn in the crowd but still it was ennerving to notice how not welcome they try to make you feel. Not sure if it is the Mallorquin I don´t speak (they never tried to find out if I did), my ´northern´ face or the fact I wasn´t born even close to this latitude. Who cares, we had our fun:-)

Carnaval

Carnaval is not so exciting in Palma as in some other places in Spain... But still we took the opportunity to dress up and go out:-)

Carnaval!

In a real roman catholic country, it is impossible to escape carnaval. Saying this, we did last 3 years. but not this one, because of Lucas. At his childcrae they did a full week of carnaval and of course we went to the procession of the children last saturday. Lucas dressed up (aha) as a marinero, and his mother as a pirate:-) Today is for adults but we escape to the village to have a quiet lunch with friends:-) Let´s see if we manage to get back in the city.....
