Last week there was a bunyolada at the kindergarten were we bring Lucas. Of course we went since we are very socially-active parents hahaha. At a bunyolada you eat bunyols, which are actually oliebollen with a hole and bad timing (since oliebollen should be eaten with newyear).
When I arrived in 2004 the locals explained that the 21st of October (St. Ursula, see last entry on name days) the young men sing underneath the balconies of the virgin (virgin nowadays not being an exact description; young woman) of their choice. The young lady in question invites him (if they like the balad of course) to eat bunyols. There was also something with books and roses or maybe that is another one of their Saintly habits. Anyway read the internet explanation here. A fact is that in October you can buy/eat bunyols anywhere on the streets (of Palma). So this might be a clue as to why I have not lost a gram that pregnancy fat this month..............
